Let me tell you why today was awesome...

From the outsiders perspective today would not have looked spectacular. It might have looked... chaotic...loud...silly...or even average. Here's why it rocked.

At 2:30 PM, a group of 2 year olds stopped-with ONE request! They played rhythmically and when the music changed and I said "stop" they did it! All four of them...together! They looked at me. They waited. They smiled.

The music changed again... "Go!"

They played rhythmically.

"Stop"

They looked at me. They waited. They smiled.

Do you know what just happened? Stopping became fun. That muscle in the brain that practices "stop" was just associated with a positive emotion.

At 3:00 PM, an infant with "stranger danger" came along with me to music class. He didn't cry. He moved across the room to watch the group. He didn't cry. I set out a drum. He walked over and picked it up. He didn't cry. I sang his name...he almost smiled. He didn't cry.

At 3:30 PM two (almost) 5 year olds played together through music. They shared drum sticks, helped each other with rhythmic patterns, and supported each other as they learned something new. They took turns. They listened. Ah-Maz-Ing!

It's the little things in Rock Band and Music Rocks that make it more than "music".
