As the weather cools down and the leaves begin to change, as long as you’re not in Florida, you may want to have activities that match the ambiance. Here are some of our favorite activities that you can do with your kiddos!
1. Fall Sensory Bins
There are so many sensory bin ideas on the internet nowadays! Sensory bins allow kids to explore different textures, smells, and sights. They can help teach different topics as well such as colors, shapes, and more! Here are a few of our favorite ideas to use at home.
Apple Cinnamon Oats!
This one is pretty easy and uses stuff you can find in your pantry! Get some oats, cinnamon sticks and apple slices and put them in a small bin. That’s it! While these may seem simple, you can have some fun with it by dyeing the oats with food coloring or using a combination of dried apple slices and fresh apple slices. This is a taste safe bin as well!
Pumpkins, gourds… and soap?
Pumpkin picking should be arriving soon and, with that, those bumpy little gourds will be available. While many people think about carving pumpkins and playing in all of the goopy seeds and insides, there is a cleaner alternative for a sensory activity! Get those pumpkins or gourds, sponges, and some soapy water to make a little pumpkin bath! To make this a taste safe option, you can use a foamy aquafaba creation instead of soap!
2. Spooky Stories and Songs
This activity is easy and can be educational. All you need are some pictures of spooky Halloween things and, if you want, some paper and something to write with! For the younger kiddos, this can be used to promote their verbal skills. Just have them talk through the story they are making based on the picture. For your older kiddos who can write, have them practice writing their story down! To bring it a step further, have your kids write a song about the picture or their story! You can make up your own melody or change the words to a favorite song!
Here are some pictures to get you started!

Halloween activities for kids
Here are some songs you can use this upcoming Halloween season!

"Five Little Bats" goes to the tune of "Five Little Ducks" and works on counting backwards and can be used to get your kids ready for what they might see while trick or treating (ghosts, pumpkins, candy, oh my!).
"Ghosts and Goblins" is a song written by our founder Megan Coltoniak that can be used during a Halloween themed brain break. You can repeat the song as many times as you want or add your own movements into it!

"Where's the Ghosty?" is a song to tune of "Are You Sleeping?" This can be used with scarves to help with color identification and play skills! The second verse can be changed to fit the color and location of the "ghosty" you found. Remember, the song doesn't need to rhyme to be effective!
And last but not least... go on a MONSTER HUNT!
